Winter is a great time to take advantage of the wide variety of things to do in the Mount Washington Valley. Think snow and ski, but a lot more as well. Alpine and Nordic skiing is available at 13 resorts but also think snow shoeing, sleigh rides, skating, shopping, kicking back in front of a fire and even dog sledding. Here are some lodging deals to ease the way.
A good lodging deal in Gorham
Here is the free or $9 deal. Royalty Inn in Gorham New Hampshire is offering a mid-week deal that lets you ski Wildcat Mountain and get what amounts to a to a free room. Reserve a room with them for $63 per night (per adult, $48 teen,$39 junior) and get your lift ticket at Wildcat free. Midweek tickets at Wildcat are $63. The deal can be extended to weekends for an additional $9. per person. If snowmobiling is what you are after they also have packages with machines available. If you take up this offer, plan to eat at least one night at Libby’s Bistro in Gorham. Libby’s is quality dining at reasonable prices. Visiting here presents the perfect opportunity to check out the facilities at Great Glen Trails and the AMC Pinkham Notch facilities. It’s ski time in Tuckerman’s ravine. Route 16 north of the Conways and Glen.
And a pair of good places to stay on Route 302
When Route 16 turns north at Glen continue straight on following Route 302. There are a couple of good deals up this road as well.
The Bartlett Inn, a cozy place with rooms in the main house and comfortable cabins, has greatly improved its facilities over the past several years. For $69 per person per night they offer a Cranmore Mountain deal Sunday through Friday with skiing Monday through Thursday. The deal includes a cabin room, full breakfast, lift tickets, and a half price discount at some local restaurants on the second entrée. They also have another midweek deal for $87 per person per night. This includes lodging in a cabin, breakfast, cocoa-tea and cookies daily, at your choice of lift tickets at Bretton Woods, Black Mountain, Cranmore Mountain, Wildcat Mountain, King Pine and Shawnee Peak. The Bartlett Inn also has a really good deal for a package with dog sledding.
Another place to look for deals on Route 302 is the Bernerhoff Inn, a very elegant newly renovated small inn. The Bernerhof is a two night weekend package starting at $384 per couple. The package includes two nights at the inn, full gourmet breakfast daily, afternoon tea and refreshments daily, use of an iPad and in-house movies, and Two lift tickets to ski at a choice of Bretton Woods, Black Mountain, Cranmore Mountain, King Pine or Shawnee Peak OR a trail pass, rentals and group lesson for Mt Washington Valley Ski Touring, Bretton Woods XC, Jackson Ski Touring or King Pine XC for use on Monday. Add Friday night or Monday night and get a 25% discount for the third night.
Reserving early and getting there
It is important to note that blackout dates may apply to some of these offers so check with the inn of your choice as to the availability of these packages for the date you want. These are country inns with charm and country comfort. Space may be limited so booking early is advisable.
Get to the area by taking I-95 north to the Portsmouth Circle, then follow Route 16 through Conway and North Conway.
