The Douji Corporation sets the Amaha’s up in a swanky hotel. Masane is reluctant, but Rihoko embraces the luxuries and talks her mom into letting them stay there. Masane herself starts to get into the spirit of their surroundings, ordering a large feast for them to celebrate their reunion.
The next day, the pair go back to Mariko’s place to thank her for letting Rihoko stay there earlier. At first they are told that she is gone by her husband, who falls clearly in the “dirty old man” category as he instantly starts making moves on Masane. Mariko comes back and Rihoko asks if they can rent a room, but Mariko refuses, saying that she only does commercial leases. This pushes Masane’s beserk button and the two throw down. Mariko’s husband and Segawa are even forced to pull the two apart after their fight destroys all the furniture in the room.
We see the ex-con from the previous episode continuing his hunt, but it becomes apparent that there was more than one and that the previous ex-con was indeed destroyed.
Segawa gives Masane her next assignment, another ex-con. She expresses confusion, pointing out that she already destroyed that one, but Segawa explains that they were mass produced for experimentation purposes.
Rihoko wants to take another crack at convincing Mariko to let them stay there. Knowing the direct approach won’t work, she somehow manages to rent the room by turning their family into a freelance corporation of some sort. Mariko’s hands are tied, and she finally agrees to let them stay. She is quick to point out that the place is being demolished in a year so the housing is still temporary.
Masane calls up Takayama and tells him that they’re moving out. She says she’ll still do the work she’s assigned, but she wants her own life and will only work on a contract basis. Takayama agrees rather quickly and all is well.
We learn that the NSWF is also looking for the Witchblade. Though the women there have similar devices, the one that Masane wears is more powerful. Reina, one of the scientists at NSWF, is told to hunt down the remaining ex-cons by “Father”, so that her “sisters” are no longer in danger. She agrees and takes her assistant, Shiori, with her.
The two go out to the park and find themselves surrounded by ex-cons. Masane senses that something is going on and runs off to see what’s happening. She arrives to see two women wearing battle armor not too dissimilar from her own taking care of the ex-cons with little trouble. Masane expresses her confusion and gets derided for it. Suddenly, the Witchblade kicks in as Masane wonders why she’s itching for a fight. The episode ends on a cliffhanger as the confrontation is about to begin.
This was a more light-hearted, character based episode. There were no action sequences to speak of, but it did set things in motion and give us some answers.
Anime fans in the local Wichita area can purchase the series on DVD in its entirety at their local Best Buy or order it online through sites like Amazon.
