Lady Gaga is an ultimate show-woman. Every red carpet, promotional appearance, or paparazzi shot she’s in becomes a spectacle due to her wildly creative ensembles. Lady Gaga is faithful to her eccentric fashion, saying she does it to honor her fans. “I want to give my fans everything they deserve and they do not deserve sweat pants and sneakers,” she has said. Thanks to the Haus of Gaga, her personal creative team, Gaga is only photographed in otherworldly outfits befitting her status as an international (and presumably intergalactic) pop icon. Here is just a taste of Gaga’s extraordinary style and tips on how to capture some of her shine, even on budget.
Little Red Riding Hood – An early Lady Gaga stamp on fashion was her signature oversize hood. This style can be easily achieved – take a long tank top like this one from Forever 21. Put it on over your head upside down, and use the widest part which is now at the top (the hem) as the piece to frame around your head.
Bubble Dress – This look is simple in concept, but is made fun through tounge-in-cheek execution. Originally done by Hussein Chalayan for his 2007 runway, Gaga reworked a version to be worn for her 2009 Fame Ball tour. Meat Dress – Possibly Gaga’s most buzzed about look to date has been this raw meat (yes, real meat) and diamond ensemble worn at the 2010 Grammy awards. A very socially conscious entertainer, Lady Gaga has symbolic messages behind many of her outfits, and this meat dress symbolizes the need for human rights. “If we don’t stand up for what we believe in and don’t fight for our rights, pretty soon we’re going to have as much rights as the meat on our own bones” she told Ellen DeGeneres. While raw meat might not be on your fashion menu, the long full finger diamond ring could work wonders as a side dish for your next going out outfit. Check out this one from Macy’s for $25.
Egg Outfit – Lady Gaga’s team hyped up her fans prior to the Grammy ceremony this year by saying she was in “incubation” for something special at the ceremony…and that something was herself! Lady Gaga showed up in an egg, carried by four men and flanked by a female model…ensemble is a vast understatement as this was most like a live action art display. Created by Hussein Chalayan and House of Mugler, this piece perfectly aligns with Gaga’s Born this Way song and message. Overstock.com has this cute ode to being born, a necklace with a movable chick hatching from an egg.
