Verizon announced the XOOM will be available February 24, 2011. It will be the first tablet running Android 3.0, a.k.a. Honeycomb. It has a 10.1 inch screen, a dual core processor, 5 MP camera, front facing web cam for conferencing, flash enabled, and much more.
Why the XOOM? Phoenix already has 4G LTE with Verizon and the XOOM is upgradable to 4G, so probably a good reason Phoenix residents would want this tablet.
Motorola has been touting the XOOM as the “tablet to change the world.” It also won the “Best of CES 2011” award.

“The Xoom betters the iPad in some ways–it comes standard with front- and rear-facing cameras, including one that can record in HD.”
Wow, to say the XOOM betters the iPad is a pretty strong statement. With Google behind the software, it should definitely be fast. If you have a Smartphone with Verizon, you know the connections in Phoenix are pretty good. The XOOM also has the ability to multitask and at speeds as fast as a PC.
This year has definitely been the year of the tablet; but I’m excited to see the XOOM in action and compare it to the iPad for myself.
The XOOM goes on sale this Thursday and here’s a list of Phoenix Verizon stores where it can be purchased. I’d recommend getting to the store early, as they have not mentioned quantities available. You may also visit Verizon’s website and submit your e-mail address to “be one of the first” to get a XOOM. I do see one issue, price. At $1,199, is it too steep to compete? Only time will tell.
