You Again, the comedy starring Kristen Bell, Jamie Lee Curtis, Sigourney Weaver, Odette Yustman, and Betty White, was released to home theaters on DVD and Blu-ray February 8th.
You Again is the latest comedy film directed by Andy Fickman (She’s The Man, Race to Witch Mountain).
It follows Marnie (Bell) who was the lowest on the totem pole in high school. Years later, it all comes flooding back when her brother (James Wolk) is getting married to her high school archrival, Joanne “JJ” (Yustman).
This is the epitome of a Disney movie with exaggerated happiness, cheesy humor and all. However, it does get better during the middle right into the ending. There is humor that will provoke laughter, but a lot of it is cheesy. It does have a nice message to be had for children though. Thus, this is a film for the whole family.
This film is plagued by the Disney storyline, but it gains in the 1080p/AVC encoded transfer. Colors and blacks are strong in the contrast and the image is immaculate. A highlight in the Blu-ray portion of this release, the visuals are striking.
Not as effective as the video, the 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio track doesn’t up the lack in sound design already an issue before the home release. An average comedy film sound quality, there isn’t much to say on this one. Blu-ray or not.
The Blu-ray release surpasses the DVD as far as extras go. A lot of Betty White scenes were deleted from the film and are only available on the Blu-ray. The special features include:
- Following Fickman: On Set With the Director
- Ask the Cast
- Funny or Die
- Deleted Scenes
- Blooper Dance Party *
- Additional Deleted Scenes *
Along with the deleted scenes including Betty White, the additional deleted scenes on the Blu-ray have a deleted cameo by Ace of Cakes star, Duff Goldman. The Blooper Dance Party is also fun as is any gag reel extra.
The DVD has some nice extras with the hilarious Funny or Die exclusive video and Ask the Cast featurette. All in all, a great pack of extras. “Avatar!”
