This has been a week with very few, if any, sightings of extremely good or bad fashion selections. The weather has been cold and most people have bundled up in jeans, boots and jackets. Scarves and even winter hats have been popular and the jackets ran the gamut from old cozy sweatshirts to trendy new belted styles in reds, plums and animal prints.
Looking at jackets, a few interesting ones were sighted. One was a black leather (or faux leather) with a narrow ruffle around the bottom and decorating the jacket. Done in plain black, it set off the ruffle detail which is very hot this season. Worn with a pair of jeans, it looked fresh, new, trendy and chic.
Another extremely attractive coat that was sighted in the cold weather was a fitted wool blend done in red with a waistline that hinted at being belted but was not. It showed off the waistline and fell attractively over the hips and the color made it new and very fashionable.
A black puffer jacket with cuffed sleeves and a tie belt was sighted and this made a very good impression. It would be a good selection for most women since it was longer in length, classic in fit and ever-popular in color. The tie belt added a touch if chic and seemed to whisper BCBGENERATION without even seeing the tags.
Others have resorted to staying warm in fleece, sweatshirts, sweaters, hoodies and windbreakers. There are a lot of attractive coat sweaters this year, and some of them are in marled knits with wide collars and tie belts. These are extremely attractive and available in most Columbia stores. For those of you who simply choose to stay warn in this weather, almost anything will serve the purpose. There are times when warmth, necessity and comfort have to come before fashion and style.
But the good news is that you can easily have both and this weekend is a great tie to treat yourself to a new coat, jacket or sweater at almost any department store at savings ranging from 40 to 80% off. Look for belted coats, puffer jackets, trendy colors, leather and faux leather jackets and coats and heavy weight coat sweaters in marled or patterned knits. Those that were too expensive a month ago are now extremely affordable and can be found on most clearance racks.
And, one of the best things about coats and warn weather wear is that the old rules have all been tossed out. Plus size women can easily wear belts and ruffles and mature women can wear bright turquoise and peacock. There are actually no rules other than comfort, personal favorites and best prices. Enjoy this weekend of sales and look for that special cold weather coat or jacket that will bring you into 2011 in cozy style. Happy thrifty fashion shopping as we set yet more records for cold this winter~
