This week we actually followed our sighting around a bit and spoke with her. First sighted at Good Will around 1:30 Friday afternoon was a lady wearing a navy long sleeve tee with a pair of Jeanology classic fit straight leg jeans and Danskin Now white athletic shoes. She stood out because she was tall and slim and had what many would consider (on first glance) a perfect figure. We watched as she tried on a black boucle knit short sleeve sweater by axcess. It fit very well, formed a deep front vee with lapels, and nipped in at the waist to show a small waistline over gently flared hips. The sweater she chose was on the one dollar racks, so it surely was a fabulous fashion find.
She then went to Books a Million at Sandhills and immediately drew attention. Her first name was the same as a famous movie star, although there was no resemblance or relationship, and someone said that they would remember her name because she looked like a model. Wow! It seems that some people have all the luck and all the gifts of good chromosomes.
She then went to Starbucks and had a decaf peppermint mocha latte and drew the attention of several customers in the coffee shop.
What did she do right to draw so much positive attention? She accentuated the positive and eliminated the negative. Her personal positives were long legs, a slim figure and a tiny waist. These she accentuated very well, especially with the addition of the nipped waist sweater by axcess. The straight leg jeans make her long legs seem to go on forever and the long sleeve navy tee gave the appearance of even more slimness and greater length.
But there is a lot we did not say about her. While she had a nice figure and knew how to make the most of it, we noticed that her chest was tiny, almost insignificant, and that her hair was short and fluffy rather than long and glossy. Her feet were also a bit too big, probably a size 10, and she was wearing no accessories or jewelry except simple pendant earrings that were, if you looked closely, missing a piece.
But we did not notice her lack of full figure curves, not did we notice her lack of long shining hair. We did not even especially pay attention to her athletic shoes which were purchased very reasonably in Walmart. She had learned the most important fashion trick of all – always accentuate the positive. Look for your best feature, whether it is long legs, a small waist, a stunning smile, big dark eyes, lush long hair, high cheekbones, slim ankles, or generous curves. Then select clothing that will make it stand out and bring compliments, drawing attention away from whatever deficits you may have.
